Catching a Possum
Here's proof that Romeo Vargas caught a possum with his bare hands! Please do not try this at home! You have to know what you're doing to pull this kind of thing off. My husband, graduating as he did from the school of experience and hard knocks (Guatemala 1980), is an expert possum catcher. I was especially proud of him for not hurting the poor thing. Although I've been accused of not liking possums, I would never want to hurt one. That is unless it was hurting me, and this one was not. He was only eating out of the cat's bowl on the porch.

Book #1 - A Possum, a Tree House, and a Little Black Bird
A Possum, a Tree House, and a Little Black Bird is the first book in the series. It tells of a cat named Edward, who, although he already has everything a cat could want, still wishes for just one more thing -- a tree house. One can't help but love him, despite his spoiled rotten condition, as we see him trying so hard to protect the house and owner (Mother) from an unruly possum.
The book is partly inspired by an actual event. One night a possum came onto my back porch and actually hissed at me. This was the first time I had ever seen those sharp teeth! My husband, who is from Guatemala, simply picked it up by the scruff of the neck, put it in a trash can and into the back of his truck. Then he drove down to the river and let it go.
I was informed, just before the book was published, that possums do not eat minnows. However, some criticisms are not worth minding. I thought to myself, well, this one does and fishes from a pier, too!
